Military Research Institute, state enterprise (VVU), was established to ensure defence and security of the state on 29th August 2012 by the Memorandum of the Ministry of Defence.

It coordinates fundamental research, conducts applied research, development and innovations of military technology and materiel, ensures the testing of military materiel and expert schooling of specialists in the fields of chemical, biological and radiological protection, electronic warfare and camouflage and materials engineering. It develops own international activities, according to treaties represents the Ministry of Defence and the Army of the Czech Republic in national institutions, organs of NATO and EDA.
