Geilo - The village amoung the mountains

In the middle of Southern Norway, between the major cities Oslo and Bergen, lies Geilo. This charming town at the foot of two national parks; Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda and offers endless opitions for outdoor activities - all year. Geilo is one of the most famous ski resorts in Norway. Due to Geilos high altitude the winter is long and stable, with lots of snow, and the some of the first ski areas in Norway were developed here.

The railway between Oslo and Bergen passes Geilo as do one of the main roads between the two cities, making Geilo very accessible, no matter where you arrive. Geilo offers skiing all the way down to the center of town, there is no need for long transport between the ski slopes and the village.

Here everyone skis, from the children who barely can walk to grandparents. There are downhill slopes and cross country trails available for all experience levels. In Summer Geilo is well known for its hiking and mountain biking opportunities, but it is also offers lots of other exciting activities like white water rafting, downhill biking and horseback riding.

But Geilo offers more than outdoor activities. Take a stroll in the village center, go shopping, try a Norwegian speciality in one of many restaurants or visit one of the areas many festivals and events.
