Was IST METAGLAS? Die Idee, ein sicheres Schauglas herzustellen, wurde Anfang der 1980 Jahre von der Firma Herberts Industrieglas in enger Zusammenarbeit mit den Chemiekonzernen Bayer, Hoechst und BASF entwickelt. Das Ergebnis waren metallverschmolzene Schaugläser, METAGLAS®.

Das Schauglas war ab sofort kein Sicherheitsrisiko mehr für die Anlagen.
In der Folgezeit wurden diese Schaugläser in viele Werknormen übernommen und in der DIN 7079 standardisiert.

Neue Anwendungsbereiche wurden erschlossen, chemisch-pharmazeutische Industrie, Lebensmittelherstellung, Hochdruck- und Vakuumanwendungen, Bergbau, Mess- und Regeltechnik, Petrochemie u.a.

„METAGLAS® – der sichere Durchblick” wurde zur Realität.
